Plans in place to stop terrorism - Nigerian Army
The commandant of Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Maj.Gen.Kenneth Osuji , made the declaration during the graduation of 455 special counter terrorism ceremony yesterday in Jaji, Kaduna State. He described the activities of Boko Haram as unacceptable.
He also averred that the crop of counter terrorism experts of the Army would deal with the current security challenges facing the nation.
He stressed that the Army could not afford to fail.
“Internal security situation in Nigeria today has created security challenges which were hitherto alien to Nigeria. The most security challenge is the spate of bombings and armed attacks by misguided elements in the society. I have no doubt that the three weeks intensive training has refreshed you sufficiently and equipped you with the necessary skills to tackle the various security challenges you may confront in the field,“ he maintained.
Maj.Gen Osuji said the Army would no longer watch the suffering of innocent Nigerians in the hands of the dreaded sect, Boko Haram.
“A lot is therefore expected of you when deployed to various parts of the nation for your assignment. Whatever you do should be tailored towards addressing the security situation and alleviating the suffering of the innocent and law abiding citizens. The Nigerian Army and indeed the nation at large repose a lot of confidence in our professional competence to deal with the contemporary internal security challenges. We cannot afford to fail them,” he said.
Earlier, the director of Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency, Brigadier General Tijani Kangbap Golali said the training covered identification of improvised explosive devices, manning of road check points, cordon and search techniques as well as search and arrest procedures for both male and female suspects.
“Others are unarmed combat, presentations on the dynamics of terrorism and insurgency as they relate to Boko Haram; information and intelligence gatherings techniques, patrols, raids, ambushes, anti ambush drills and fighting in built up areas, attacking terrorist camps.”
Brig.Gen Golali however commended the Chief of Army Staff for providing adequate resources to run the course successfully without hitches.
